Biden In Flip Flops

In politics, flipping and flopping is standard operating procedure.  It is often tied to politics’ most pronounced trait – hypocrisy.  Normally, flip-flops occur over long periods of time, when circumstances change or one’s political party gains or loses power.

President Biden is no lightweight when it comes to making those 180-degree shifts in position.  During the 1990s, he was chief sponsor of crime legislation getting tough on street criminals.   Today, he supports reforming  (defunding) the police and leniency on street criminals.

Under pressure from the radical left controlling the Democratic Party – the faction he had to assuage to get the Democrat presidential nomination – Biden has flipped (or is it flopped?) on packing the federal courts.  He once called it a “boneheaded idea.”  Today he is the bonehead that is giving tacit support to the idea – an idea that has been turned into a piece of legislation sponsored by his staunchest supporters in Congress.

Biden previously opposed any effort to eliminate the Electoral College.  Today, he is considering it.  During the campaign, Biden came out against doing away with the filibuster.  More recently, he is open to “reforming it.”  Sounds like a euphemism for “eliminating.”

Also, during the campaign, Biden promised to bring the nation together by reaching across the aisle to restore bipartisanship to Congress.  He bragged that he knew how to do it.  Since assuming Office, Biden’s definition of bipartisanship is having Republicans simply rubber-stamp his every proposal.

Recently, Biden has set the record for the speediest flip-flop.  It was not over years – or even months.  It did not even take days.  Biden announced that he would not increase the number of immigrants admitted to the nation from the level set by the Trump administration.  That was the official  announcement issued by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

That got the radical left’s nest of hornets swarming around Biden’s head.  Biden MUST increase the numbers – especially from third-world nations.  So sayeth the unofficial spokespersons for the radical left, “squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib.

Weeell … faster than you can say mea culpa, Biden announced that he would significantly increase the immigration number by approximately fourfold.

It is important to understand that the number applies to IMMIGRANTS, not REFUGEES – the folks pouring over the southern border without permission.  Immigrants are those who come through the legal process of applying and waiting for approval.

Immigration is VERY beneficial to the United States.  It is important in providing the workers for a growing economy.  Ethnic diversity enriches the American culture – but only if we control the number of immigrants and ensure the quality of their character through proper vetting.

The increase in the number of legal immigrants is a very bad policy – especially at this time.   The entire rationale for a limit is to maintain some control of the American population – so that we do not overtax both our public and private sector resources.

The failure to control the illegal and unvetted flow of so-called refugees means that we already have lost control of both the impact on the total American population and the quality of the migrant border crossers.  I say “so-called refugees” because most of those crossing the border do not meet the requirements to seek legal refugee status.

It is obvious that we are overtaxing our resources at the border – and more seriously, but less obvious, overtaxing our full range of government services, including schools, law enforcement and welfare.  It makes no sense to increase legal immigration until we get a handle on the uncontrolled migration at the border.

The Covid-19 Pandemic provides another reason to temporarily limit virtually all immigration and migration into the United States.  There seems to be something paradoxical about shutting down tourist and business air travel into America to reduce the spread of the virus and then encourage and enable thousands of untested people – as well as those with confirmed cases of Covid-19 – in the country.

The Pandemic has put a lot of people on unemployment.  At this moment, we do not need foreign workers to grow the economy.  We have more people than jobs.  That is what unemployment looks like.

Until the unemployment numbers return to the three percent pre-Pandemic level, there is no legitimate reason to open the immigration spigot for more folks who will instantly join the ranks of the unemployed – and be instantly eligible for government welfare benefits.

There seems to be only one reason why Democrats want to increase the number of legal immigrants while allowing the uncontrolled flow of illegal border crossers.  They hope and believe that the great majority of these millions of new American residents will soon be voting citizens (legal and otherwise) – and that they will vote Democrat.  Democrats are attempting to pack the voter rolls much like they pack the rolls with the ineligible and the dead.

So, there ‘tis.
