Individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are safe to resume normal habits, announced the CDC on Thursday.

“Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing,” reports CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. “If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing becuase of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment, when we can get back to some sense of normalcy.”

Thursday’s announcement, which is something of a shock considering the CDC’s predisposition towards caution, is likely a move to encourage vaccination.

Just last month, the agency urged all Americans to continue wearing masks in most settings – including outdoors – and issued complex rules for summer camps.

“We follow the science here,” said Walensky, citing new research showing the vaccines’ effectiveness against variants. “While this may serve as an incentive for some people to get vaccinated, that is not the purpose.

”The CDC’s new guidelines are great news for families hoping to gather for Independence Day, but they not will affect requirements for transportation services and businesses.

With less than 40% of Americans fully vaccinated, we can expect a majority of businesses and workplaces to maintain face mask and social distancing requirements for now.
