Award-winning French actor Gaspard Ulliel who stars in Marvel’s soon to be released g “Moon Knight” series, has died following a tragic skiing accident in the Alps. Ulliel was  37.

The actor, who has been recently climbing to international fame, the actor was skiing in the Savoie region when he collided with another skier at an intersection between two slopes and suffered a serious brain trauma on Tuesday. He was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Grenoble. Local authorities have opened an investigation into the accident, according to the AFP.    

Ulliel was one of France’s best-known actors and worked with critically acclaimed filmmakers in France and abroad. He delivered a powerful performance as the famous French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in Bertrand Bonello’s “Saint Laurent,” which competed at Cannes. Ulliel, who was highly selective about the roles he chose, also starred in Xavier Dolan’s “It’s Only the End of The World,” along with Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, and Vincent Cassel; Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “A Very Long Engagement,” as well as Bertrand Tavernier’s “La Princesse de Montpensier.” 

All three films also competed at Cannes. He also worked with a few promising filmmakers, including Stéphanie Di Giusto, who directed him in “The Dancer” with Lily Rose-Depp. 

But, what was about to catapult him to international recognition was Ulliel being cast as “Midnight Man” in Marvel’s highly anticipated “Moon Knight” series coming soon to Disney+.

Ulliel was also a sought-after model. He was the face of the Chanel fragrance Bleu de Chanel and starred in commercials directed by Martin Scorsese for the brand. 

Ulliel is survived by his six-year-old son Orso and his girlfriend Gaelle Petri. 

According to, “Moon Knight follows the story of Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”

Oscar Isaac stars as the titular character. Ulliel’s character is described as “Anton Mogart, better known as Midnight Man, an international art and jewels thief.”

Moon Knight is scheduled to be released on March 30. As of yet, no one at Disney or Marvel has commented on Ulliel’s death.

  2. Interesting read. This article was about a man’s tragic death but read more like an advertisement for an upcoming movie series. There was a one-liner about his small child and girlfriend. Kind of shows us what is more important???
