Former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch will represent the NFL against a racial discrimination case filed by ex-Dolphins coach Brian Flores.

As reported by Bloomberg Law, Lynch — a partner at  Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison — will work alongside the firm’s chairman Brad Karp on the litigation. Lynch served as the 83rd U.S. attorney general from 2015 to 2017 under former President Barack Obama.

She also represents McDonald’s in a discrimination case filed by media mogul Byron Allen.

Flores is represented by famed New York trial lawyer Douglas Wigdor, with John Elefterakis serving as co-counsel. Both lawyers claim their client wasn’t hired by the Houston Texans for the recent head coach vacancy because of the suit against the NFL.

“Flores was fired last month by Miami after leading the Dolphins to a 24-25 record over three years. They went 9-8 in their second straight winning season, but failed to make the playoffs during his tenure,” AP reported

Flores claims he participated in “sham” interviews with NFL teams attempting to comply with the Rooney Rule, which requires franchises to interview at least one minority candidate when filling head coach and general manager positions. He is suing the NFL and the Dolphins, the Denver Broncos, and the New York Giants, “saying racist hiring practices by the league have left it racially segregated and managed like a plantation,” per AP.

As previously reported by theGrioat the end of the regular season, of 32 NFL teams, only one was helmed by a Black coach after Flores was let go in January – Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, in his 15th season.

Flores’ lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, seeks “class-action status and unspecified damages” from the league and the three franchises, along with unidentified individuals, according to the AP report.

Per Sports Illustrated, the proposed class action suit states: “The Rooney Rule is also not working because management is not doing the interviews in good faith, and it, therefore, creates a stigma that interviews of Black candidates are only being done to comply with the Rooney Rule rather than in recognition of the talents that the Black candidates possess.”

The NFL called Flores’ claims meritless in a recent statement, per NBC Sports.

The Dolphins and team owner Stephen Ross will be represented by Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan litigator William Burck, per the Bloomberg report.

  1. So these people hired a Bigot to fight racism?? Makes no sense to anyone. Lynch should have been stripped of her law License for life after her helping Hitlery get away with her crimes as Secretary of State including the MURDER of 4 men because she would have had to do her job to prevent their deaths. Obozo did the same thing. Everyone knows that if a Coach is not winning games and getting into the Playoffs they get fired. Instead of the IGNORANCE of Diversity for sake of Diversity team owners want the best for the Job. To hold jobs open for any race because others feel it is only right to do so is WILLFUL LIBERAL IGNORANCE. Teams want good coaches no matter what their color. That means they hire who is best not who is white, yellow, red , or black just to make things look good. Lynch was picked because of both her color and gender. We all know that MESS that got us. A Secretary of State who broke the law and was not Punished and a Boss who capped off his 8 Year long Scandal with 7 counts of TREASON. So we can Clearly see how her being picked worked for her TRUE boss the American people. Criminals walked free.
