A heroic Chic-Fil-A worker in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, took down an armed man carjacking a woman with her baby.
Video of the altercation went viral, showing the fast-food worker — identified as Mykel Gordon — taking the carjacker to the ground and putting him in a headlock as other employees and bystanders came to help.
The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Department tweeted the video along with the following message,
In reference to the FWB Chick-fil-A employee who ran to help a woman with a baby who was being carjacked, we want to say a sincere thank you to Ms. Kelner for providing video of a portion of the encounter. (see prior post). A major shout-out to this young man for his courage!
Gordon sprang into action after a man stole the woman’s car keys in the parking lot of the Chick-fil-A on Beal Parkway in Fort Walton Beach, according to a news release shared Wednesday by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthew Sexton, the operator of the franchise, says that Gordon is “an outstanding Team Member” at Chick-fil-A’s Beal Parkway location, where he has worked for 14 years.
“I’m grateful for my amazing Team Member, Mykel Gordon, who so selflessly jumped in to intervene and help our Guests. I couldn’t be prouder of his incredible act of care,” he told the press.
The victim told police she was getting her infant out of her vehicle when the suspect demanded her keys while “wielding a stick,” according to the Sheriff’s Office news release.
The release also said that the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspect, identified as 43-year-old William Branch.
