Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the true victor of the midterm elections. Harris throughout the midterm campaigning period appeared on the side of a number of Democratic candidates who ended up winning their races. This included Representative Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayor’s race and Josh Shapiro in the Pennsylvania governor race.
The vice President has also been praised online for the high success rate of the candidates that she actively and publicly supported during the midterm elections.
Eugene Scott, a national political reporter at the Washington Post, noted that despite all of the people asking “where is the vice president?”, very few have realized the effort she put into the campaign ahead of the midterms, talking to universities and generally helping with bringing Gen Z voters to the polls.
Author Keith Boykin also tweeted a list of all of the candidates that had won their election and had Harris’s backing during the midterms. Names such as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and New York Governor Kathy Hochul were prevalent on the list.
Political scientists told Newsweek that while Harris did not probably have a high impact on the midterm elections, it was likely that the results would help benefit her. This is because of her association with winning Democrats which will most likely win her favor with Democratic voters.
