(PartiallyPolitics.com) –  Texas Senator Ted Cruz tweeted a Fox News clip in which Joe Biden’s family vacation to the U.S. Virgin Islands was criticized. He added the caption “Enjoy St. Croix,” along with a palm tree, cocktail and sunshine emojis.

The White House has defended the President’s decision to take a vacation, noting that while on vacation the President would still be working. Biden is currently set to return to Washington D.C. on January 2.

A White House spokesperson in a statement released to Newsweek said that regardless of where he is, the President is working and that he “will continue to closely monitor updates and will remain in close touch with the staff over the New Year.”

Cruz’s tweet was one of the most lighthearted tweets and many consider it to be a nod to the criticism that he had received during his trip to Cancun, Mexico, in February 2021 while a deadly winter storm had caused damage in Texas. At the time, Texas had dealt with large power outages, no running water and freezing temperatures. Meanwhile, Cruz defended his decision to fly to Cancun as him being a “good dad” after his daughters had asked to go on a trip with friends after their school was canceled.

Cruz, when back in the U.S., noted that he would have stayed in Cancun for longer had it not been for the outrage caused by his trip. He added, “I didn’t want all the screaming and yelling about this trip to distract even one moment from the real issues that I think Texans care about, which is keeping all of our families safe.” However, he has also admitted that in hindsight it was the wrong decision and he shouldn’t “have done it.”
