(PartiallyPolitics.com) On Wednesday during an interview with CBS News’s Robert Costa Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said that he believed President Biden would pursue reelection in 2024. He added that other Democrats should avoid challenging him, based on his track record of the past few years. He continued to say that if there was a challenger it could potentially lead to a replay of the Se. Ted Kennedy vs. former President Carter’s primary election in 1980, ultimately led to Carter losing to former President Reagan.

He added that the historic track record shows that challenging a sitting president is not a good idea for the ruling party.

Clyburn also was confident that regardless of who the Republican challenger would be, Biden would be able to win the election and serve another term in the White House.

Clyburn had been a big ally of Biden during his 2020 election campaign. He had been a vocal ally and had often praised him for the progressive legislation that he had been key in passing.

The South Carolina congressman also issued a warning to potential Democratic challengers, pointing to former Sen. Ted Kennedy’s primary against former President Carter in 1980.

Biden has often said that he intends on running again, but he has yet to officially launch a presidential campaign for 2024. On the other hand, former President Trump officially launched his presidential campaign in November.
