(PartiallyPolitics.com) Former President Donald Trump launched his third presidential bid in November. As he is now intensifying his efforts and building his campaign, he has sent a formal petition to Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to get his Facebook account unblocked. Following Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, Trump was blocked from a number of platforms including Facebook and Twitter.

In the campaign letter, Trump writes that the ban on his account has “distorted and inhibited” public discussion and discourse. Facebook is already set to review the ban on Trump’s account on Jan. 7 of this year. It is uncertain whether they will follow in Twitter’s shoes and have Trump’s account restored.

Trump’s Twitter account was restored after Elon Musk purchased the Social Media platform. Trump is now also looking to have his Facebook account restored, which many believe shows that he will start using the big social media platforms again. During the ban, Trump created his own social media platform, Truth Social, which he had used exclusively. Even after his Twitter account was restored in November 2022, Trump did not post anything on his Twitter account, which has 87 million followers.

Social Media played an important role during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, which is likely the reason why Trump wants to have access to his Twitter and Facebook accounts again. On his own platform, Truth Social, he only has 4.8 million followers.
