(PartiallyPolitics.com) Both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis could be in a position to win the 2024 presidential election in a hypothetical match against President Joe Biden. Former President Donald Trump according to a recent Reuters/ Ipsos poll/ remains the favorite for the GOP nomination.
The survey included responses from 4,408 adults from February 6 to 13. According to the results of the poll, both Trump and DeSantis could narrowly win in a hypothetical match against Biden. More than half of Democratic voters also said that they would like to see a different candidate for their party and that they would prefer if Biden did not seek reelection.
According to the results of the survey, around 43 percent of registered Republican voters would support Trump in the party’s primary, while 31 percent would do the same for DeSantis. Trump announced his bid for the White House in November. DeSantis on the other hand has not yet disclosed whether or not he is planning to run for the White House in 2024.
In a hypothetical race against Biden, Trump would come out on top with 42 percent of respondents supporting him and 39 percent supporting Biden. Similarly, DeSantis would also win against Biden in a 41 to 38 percent vote.
Because of the poll’s four point credibility interval, both of these rates are technically considered statistical ties.
DeSantis is expected to be the strongest challenger against Trump in the GOP primary if he decides to run.
Republican strategist Chuck Coughlin told Reuters that DeSantis is probably going to feel encouraged by the rates of support he is getting, especially considering he has not yet announced that he would be running in the race yet.
