(PartiallyPolitics.com) Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) has officially endorsed the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) for president. The endorsement came only one day after Haley’s presidential bid announcement and is the first endorsement she has received from the South Carolina congressional delegation.
Norman in a tweet on Wednesday said that this was a “pivotal point” for the country, as Republican candidates who have historically performed well in South Carolina have not always managed to have the same appeal across the nation. He added that this was the time for “a new chapter in national Republican politics” and that Haley was the best person to take on the role of writing the new chapter.
The endorsement came in the form of a tweet. Norman is one of the most right-wing conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus and was one of the 20 House Republicans who had opposed Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) nomination for Speaker. This allowed them to negotiate concessions with the now-Spearer as well as to empower rank-and-file members. Normal has consistently pushed for a more balanced federal budget.
Following the Speaker’s vote, Norman was appointed to the House Rules Committee, which controls the legislation that can make it to the House floor.
Norman was previously a big supporter of former President Trump and had even been one of the members of the GOP to back Trump’s claims about a fraud election. He had also voted against the certification of the election results in 2020.
