(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The DeSantis administration is going to be removing a major Miami hotel’s liquor license after it hosted a Christmas-themed drag queen show in December with children in attendance despite receiving warnings.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation had warned the Hyatt Regency Miami to not proceed with the “sexually explicit show with children present,” however, the hotel did not heed this warning.
In a statement from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office, they wrote that the Department had decided to take away the venue’s license for both the sale and consumption of alcohol as the establishment had gone against Florida law by showing sexually explicit content in front of children. They proceeded to write that Florida Governor DeSantis was fighting “for the innocence of children in the classroom and throughout Florida.”
The performers at the event had shown their prosthetic breasts and genitals and even rubbed those prosthetics on the faces of audience members. They further exposed their rears and in certain parts of the show were explicitly “simulating masturbation” and had “graphic depictions of childbirth and/or abortion.” This information was part of a complaint filed at the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
The show, “A Drag Queen Christmas” took place in late December and did not have any explicit warnings about the nature of the content. Instead, the promotion of the Christmas-themed event stated that “all ages welcome.”
The venue had also received a warning about the presence of children in the event, which led to the promotion material being updated to include a disclaimer that the show was “recommended for audiences 18+.” However, children were still allowed to enter if an adult brought them.
