(PartiallyPolitics.com) – President Biden is not going to be attending the coronation of King Charles III next month, according to a source close to the matter. The source further revealed that First Lady Jill Biden would be leading a delegation to the United Kingdom which would be attending the coronation on May 6th.

This is not an uncommon practice, as then-President Eisenhower had also not attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at the time and had instead selected a delegation that attended the ceremony in his place.
The White House has so far not commented further regarding the coronation news which was first reported by the Washington Post.

In September, Biden visited the United Kingdom to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II along with many other leaders from around the world. While it is not unusual for the U.S. President to skip the coronation, the Post in their coverage noted that there were people who were upset about Biden’s choice to not attend.

Bob Seely, a Conservative member of the British Parliament during an interview with the Telegraph stated that Biden’s choice “seems pretty remiss.” He proceeded to claim that he is “tempted to say more fool him for not coming,” and that the coronation is a “once in a lifetime event.”  He continued by claiming that as the head of state Biden should be attending the event in May.
