(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The feud between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been growing, as Newton on Wednesday visited DeSantis’ state where he took a moment to laugh about DeSantis’ efforts in his own backyard.

Newsom during a meeting with New College of Florida students and faculty expressed his support for liberal arts institutions which have recently been targeted by the DeSantis administration’s efforts against “woke” policies and programs in higher education.

The Republican governor has recently launched a new restructuring for the school and its education system which would help make the institution more progressive while reducing many of the more progressive structures. The progressive and LGBTQ+-friendly student body has called DeSantis’ efforts a “hostile takeover” that infringes on academic freedom.

In January, DeSantis appointed 7 new members to the 13-member Board of Trustees at New College, which would help him establish a majority in the school so that he can enact many of his conservative changes. During the first board meeting, the board fired New College President Patricia Okker and had her replaced with Richard Corcoran, DeSantis’ first commissioner of education.

During his meeting at the school, the California governor addressed both the students and the faculty and spoke about DeSantis’ attempts to change the school. Newsom also used this instance as a way to further attack DeSantis’ board’s decision to get rid of the diversity program at the school because it only consisted of four people. This was what made Newsom laugh while saying, “I don’t mean to laugh but geez.”
