(PartiallyPolitics.com) – A new poll from Quinnipiac University showed that former President Donald Trump currently has a double-digit lead against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 Republican presidential nomination matchup. He is also in a competitive position in a potential rematch against President Biden.Â
On Wednesday, the poll showed that the majority of Americans believed that if Trump faces criminal charges then he should be disqualified from the presidential race, this relates to charges that he could face both regarding the local and federal investigations.
This survey also reaffirms that Trump is currently the front-runner in the race for the GOP’s party nomination. In November, Trump launched his third presidential campaign shortly after the 2022 midterm elections. Currently, he has 47 percent support from Republicans and GOP-leaning independents, in the poll which consisted of 15 actual or potential GOP candidates.
DeSantis, who has not yet announced his plans for 2024, came in second place with 33 percent support. Former Vice President Mike Pence, who is also expected to join the presidential race received 5 percent, while former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who launched her presidential campaign in February received 4 percent. No other candidate managed to receive more than 2 percent in the survey.
In a potential match between Biden and Trump, Biden is currently leading with 48 percent against Trump’s 46 percent.Â
