(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Monday, a four-day Reuters/Ipsos poll closed and found that over half of Americans believed that federal prosecutors had granted President Joe Biden special treatment by choosing not to prosecute him over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
The poll found that around 53 percent of all respondents, including 29 percent of Democrats, believed that Biden was receiving special treatment because he was serving as the President. Forty-six percent of respondents also stated that they were at least in part familiar with the assessment that U.S. special counsel Robert Hur had made and his comments about how tough it would be to prosecute the President because of his age and because he would appear before the jury “as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Following the release of Hur’s report, Biden blasted him for his comments about his mental abilities.
Still, the poll showed some of the key vulnerabilities that Biden is facing as he seeks re-election. Around 78 percent of respondents, including 71 percent of Democrats, believe that Biden is too old to be serving in office. Biden is currently the oldest President in U.S. history.
Trump, who is the frontrunner of the GOP primary election and the likely nominee for the Republican party is 77 years old but manages to suffer less from skepticism relating to his age and mental abilities. Only around 53 percent of respondents believed that Trump would be too old to serve in the U.S. government for the second time. Trump served his first term from 2017 to 2021.
