(PartiallyPolitics.com) – House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) criticized President Joe Biden following a Supreme Court decision that granted limited immunity from prosecution to former presidents, potentially delaying the case against Donald Trump over his alleged actions to overturn the 2020 election results. This ruling significantly reduces the likelihood of Trump facing trial before the upcoming November election.
In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, President Biden, who had a challenging debate performance against Trump, expressed strong disapproval of the court’s judgment, voicing his concerns from the White House.
Johnson, appearing on Fox News, accused Biden of attacking the judicial system. He argued, “What we’re witnessing is reprehensible and poses a threat. The president has attempted to weaken our legal system, initially by using the Department of Justice against his main political rival, Donald Trump. Now, when things don’t go as planned, he seeks to undermine the Supreme Court itself.”
Johnson described this as a critical moment in American history, indicating that Biden’s forceful critique of the Supreme Court stems from desperation. He suggested that Biden’s recent visibility has shown he is unfit to serve, lacking the necessary capacity and sharpness, prompting him to attack the justice system itself.
The Speaker praised the justices for their adherence to “common sense and our Constitution,” emphasizing the importance of presidential decision-making without the fear of future legal repercussions. Johnson lamented that the decision wasn’t unanimous, attributing the 6-3 split to the liberal justices participating in what he called a charade.
