(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The House GOP has been angered by the recent Biden administration reports that showed that millions of U.S. dollars that were meant to be used for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan ended up falling into the hands of the Taliban.

Last week, during a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing chairman Brian Mast, R-Fla., started by pointing out many of the State Department expenditures were either without oversight or egregious. He pointed out that following the 2021 chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan there had been $2.8 billion in humanitarian funds that were meant to be directed to Afghanistan.

He proceeded to address the recent reports about what had happened to the U.S. dollars that had been sent to the civilians in Afghanistan after the capital of Kabul was overtaken by the Taliban. He pointed out that the reports have shown that tens of millions of those dollars never ended up being used for humanitarian assistance and that instead, they were now in the Taliban’s hands. He then stated that this was the “tip of the iceberg” when it came to incompetent federal appropriations.

House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, had stated in May that the inspector general had found that at least $10.9 million of these funds had ended up directly in the hands of the Taliban. He added that it was unacceptable for any U.S. funds to end up benefiting the terrorist group. He added that the Biden administration needed to immediately take action against U.S. dollars being used by the Taliban or ending up in their hands.
