(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Paul Begala, a former strategist for Bill Clinton and CNN political commentator, admitted that the report by Special Counsel Robert Hur which included an assessment of President Joe Biden’s memory was “terrible for Democrats.”
Begala, who is a supporter of the President, claimed that Biden had not slept well following the release of the report. The report was meant to address President Biden’s case of having mishandled classified documents dating back to his time serving in the Obama administration.
According to the report, Biden was found to have wilfully retained classified U.S. documents as a private citizen. However, Hur did not recommend that any charges be filed against Biden, in part because it would be hard to convince a jury to file charges as Biden comes across as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
The report was alarming to the Democratic Party and President Biden, who responded by holding a press conference in which he addressed the special counsel’s claims about him being incompetent.
Begala remarked regarding Biden’s response and the report, that while he was a Biden supporter and had slept well last night he proceeded to joke that he had woken up “every two hours crying and wet the bed.”
He continued by arguing that this was horrible for the Democrats and everyone with a “functioning brain” was aware of it. The commentator proceeded to advise that what Biden needed to have done rather than get defensive was to attack Hur. He added that he believes Biden’s response had actually made the situation worse without a doubt.
