(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), the co-chair of the Biden reelection campaign, has slammed former President Donald Trump over his recent comments regarding immigration which were published on Tuesday in an interview with Time. In his remarks, Trump had promised that if he wins back the White House there would be mass deportations.

During the interview, Trump continued to push many of the false points that he has frequently used as talking points for his 2024 campaign pitch. This includes overstating the criminality rates among immigrants as well as the number of undocumented immigrants currently in the country.

In a statement exclusively obtained by The Hill, Escobar argued that Trump was continuing to repeat a dangerous rhetoric that was going against the principles of the United States as a nation. She added that he was not only committing to bring back systematic policies that removed children from their mothers but that he had also pledged to go even further by using law enforcement and the military to enact his immigration policies. She continued by arguing that Trump’s immigration policies were ineffective and cruel.

These comments were a reaction from Escobar to Trump’s pledge that he is going to be using local law enforcement and the National Guard in order to enforce immigration law. Trump with his comments had also indirectly praised former President Eisenhower’s “Operation Wetback,” but avoided referring to it by name. As he argued Eisenhower had been “big on illegal immigration” and had pushed for massive deportation. Trump added that this is something that the former President had been proficient in.
