(PartiallyPolitics.com) – During the Democratic National Committee’s September fundraiser retreat, one donor had questioned Quentin Fulks, the deputy campaign manager for President Biden, regarding the president’s age. This has become a central topic of concern within the party ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Fulks in his response acknowledged that it was impossible to alter the president’s age. However, he stated that the focus should not be on Biden’s age but rather on his historic accomplishments. The president turned 81 on Monday.
The response given by Fulk was well-received by those in attendance who perceived age to be an indication of deep experience. However, there were many who believe that there was not a lot of movement by the Biden campaign to ensure that people remember that Biden’s rival, former President Donald Trump is only three-and-a-half years younger. This division highlights one of the key issues in the Democrat party right now as not everyone is sure that this is the correct handling for President Biden’s most sensitive issues.
Dozens of fundraisers, Democratic officials, and strategists have anonymously spoken on this topic revealing the concerns regarding the President’s age during his campaign. Many donors have also been pushing for top campaign aides to enter the offensive and try to promote the idea that Biden’s age showed how wise he was. They even called for the campaign to embrace the humor about “Grandpa Joe.”
Former Biden Chief of Staff Ron Klein stated that everyone knew this to be an issue and it needed to be addressed. He also pointed out that they needed to emphasize how Biden’s age has given him the wisdom to navigate complex problems such as the one in Ukraine.
