(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Eric Adams, the Democratic Mayor of New York City has blasted President Biden on his handling of migration as the city’s resources are stretched thin in the attempt to handle the asylum seekers that have arrived in New York. The tensions that have increased could cause both men to struggle to win their reelection in the next few years.
Since last spring, Adams who is going to be up for reelection in 2025 has argued that the city was struggling to handle the over 110,000 asylum seekers that have entered the city. He has also made repeated criticisms of the Republicans and the Biden administration calling for them to provide local governments with federal help in order to handle migration
Jon Reinish, a Democratic strategist has argued that it is not a good sign for parties when their prominent leaders are in such big disagreement. He added that this “pointing fingers” has led to toxicity in the relationship between the two men.
Adams on Friday embarked on a four-day trip across the U.S. southern border which will include visits to Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico. He added that his plan for the trip is to provide an assessment of the current situation in his city which he has argued is “at capacity.” Furthermore, he stated that it was not possible for them to continue sitting idly and expect that they are going to receive deserved relief. As he pointed out they needed help from the federal government and the state.
