(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Sunday, during an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) slammed Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito for putting the blame for the flag controversy on his wife. A few days after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack an upside-down flag was seen flying outside the Justice’s home.
Dean, in her interview, spoke about Memorial Day and pointed out that it was incredibly important that they follow a code of ethics. She added regarding the controversy that this was a question about how to honor the country’s dead. She noted that the way in which they can honor the dead is by abiding by an ethics code which is something that Alito did not appear to be interested in.
Dean also slammed the justice who she had argued had “shown bias” and impropriety and had attempted to shift the blame on his wife. She continued by questioning if this is something they were above and pointed out that the way of honoring the dead is through upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.
The New York Times had reported that in January 2021 there had been an upside-down American flag seen flying outside Alito’s home in Virginia. The flag had been seen only days after the rioters had stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block the certification of the 2020 presidential election, which certified Joe Biden as the next U.S. president.
The upside-down flag has become a symbol for the “Stop the Steal” movement which grew out of the false claims of widespread election fraud in 2020. Alito had allegedly claimed that his wife had opted to fly the flag after a fight with the neighbors.
