(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The Democrats are looking to elevate the Republican candidate who is looking to win Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) seat in the primary.
Democratic candidate Adam Frisch’s campaign, along with a super-PAC that is aligned with the Democratic party have put out campaigns in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in which they are either stating that Republican candidate Ron Hanks is too aligned with former President Donald Trump and too conservative or increasing the criticism for Jeff Hurd who has the backing of the establishment.
The Democrats believe that Hanks is the weakest of the candidates if they head into the general election against him, and as such it would give them the biggest opportunity to flip the red seat.
Former state Republican Chair Dick Wadhams argued that it was unsurprising that the Democrats had desperately wanted Ron Hanks as the nominee as he would lose “to Adam Frisch.” He added that this was something he did not have any doubt in his mind about.
Colorado State Board of Education members Stephen Varela, Hurd, and Hanks are believed to be the leading challengers for the state seat, as Boebert has opted to run in a different district in the upcoming election.
Rocky Mountain Values PAC, started to air advertisements last month in which parts of Hanks’s speech where his position on immigration is discussed were pushed forward. In the ad, it is stated that both Trump and Hanks are too conservative.
At the same time, Frisch’s campaign claimed that Hurd was “hiding” and refused to disclose where he stood on a number of important issues, including abortion.
