(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) joined the presidential race almost a month ago, and yet he is still lagging far behind former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary polls.
A spokesperson for Never Back Down, the Pro-DeSantis PAC, stated that Trump was the “runaway front-runner” while DeSantis still had a long road in front of him. Most recently DeSantis has also had to face backlash after his campaign shared a video in which Trump was attacked over his previous support of the LGBTQ+ community, which has caused concerns among Republicans.
One Republican strategist told the Hill that DeSantis’ campaign is now realizing that “they are in a big hole” and that while they could potentially win the 2024 campaign, they are the “only other game in town.”
Steve Cortes, the spokesperson revealed during a Twitter Spaces conversation on Sunday that currently their campaign appears to be far behind Trump in the national polling and that he is the first to point out that they have an “uphill battle” ahead of them if they want to win the race. Still, Cortes pointed out that DeSantis might still have the opportunity to win.
In his comments, he also pointed out that Trump has two previous presidential campaign cycles under his belt which provide him with experience on how to handle campaigning. It is also harder to be in a battle against an incumbent or former President as he pointed out. Despite this, he was certain that DeSantis would be able to bring people to his side and showcase his background and agenda.
