(PartiallyPolitics.com) – A Rasmussen Reports poll released on Friday found that a large portion of U.S. voters believed that should their preferred presidential candidate not win the presidential election, then the country is going to be doomed.

Specifically, 42 percent of voters supporting former President Donald Trump claimed that if he does not win the presidential election then the country is doomed, while 40 percent believe the same about President Joe Biden. Of these voters, 26 percent and 25 percent respectively claimed that they “strongly agree” with the statement that should their preferred candidate lose then the country would be going downhill.

However, the majority of voters 53 percent do not appear to believe that to be true in either of these cases.

The results also appeared to be heavily influenced by party lines with 61 percent of Republicans claiming that if Trump loses the country is doomed, while 67 percent of Democrats believe the same about Biden. Still, 24 percent of the voters do not believe that the results will be so dramatic if their preferred candidate loses.

The poll was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research and it included 989 likely U.S. voters between July 23-25. The poll’s margin of error was determined at 3 percentage points.

The RealClear Politics average of national polls has found that currently, the difference between the two candidates is less than one point, with Biden receiving 45 percent and Trump receiving 44.1 percent of support.

Gallup in a recent report also found that Biden’s job approval rating is at only 40.7 percent despite the recent drop in inflation rates.
