(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Sunday, former Attorney General Bill Barr argued that this presentation of former President Trump as a victim was “ridiculous.”
In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream, Barr argued that the “detailed indictment” against Trump was “very, very damning.” He added that while Trump has in the past been the victim, this push of Trump being the victim in this case and the attempts to paint the indictment as a political “witch hunt” were “ridiculous.” He added that while when Trump had been the victim in the past, he had defended him, this is not the case here.
The Justice Department has charged Trump with 37 counts, 31 of which are connected to the indictment act. The charges came after an investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left the White House. The Justice Department revealed that a number of the classified documents retrieved from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home contained nuclear and military secrets. If Trump is found guilty then he could face many decades in prison.
During the Trump administration, Barr had served as the attorney general. However, he has been critical of Trump in connection to this case, stating last week that had Trump handed over the documents when the request had originally come through, then this case would not have gone anywhere.
On Sunday, Barr argued that it was the responsible thing for the government to examine Trump’s handling of classified documents and that Trump had “acted irresponsibly” as he should not have held on to those documents that contained sensitive information about the country.
