(PartiallyPolitics.com) – A CBS News/YouGov poll has found that the majority of Republicans want whoever is elected as the new House Speaker to be loyal to former President Donald Trump, who is currently leading the 2024 presidential primary race.

The survey found that 59 percent of all GOP voters wanted a Speaker to be chosen that would be loyal to Trump. When MAGA Republicans were asked that percentage climbed even higher, with 84 percent stating that the new Speaker needed to be loyal to the former President.

This poll was released less than a week after the historic ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the office of Speaker. Trump has also stated that he would like whoever is elected Speaker to help him. He has also endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in the race.

Of the Republican voters asked 58 percent stated that they wanted whoever the Republican speaker was to collaborate with the Democrats. Forty-nine percent stated that they wanted to have a Speaker who was going to be part of the MAGA Movement. When MAGA Republicans were asked 85 percent stated that they wanted the new House Speaker to be a member of MAGA.

In terms of the actions they want the Republican Speaker to take, 72 percent of all Republicans stated that they needed to impeach President Biden. McCarthy had previously launched an impeachment inquiry during his time in office.

GOP voters are to a large extent split over whether or not they agree with McCarthy being removed from the Speakership, with 53 percent stating that they approved of the move, while 47 percent opposed it. Overall 25 percent of Americans have argued that the ousting of McCarthy was going to have a positive effect on the country, while 23 percent argued that it would be bad. Around 51 percent stated that they did not believe McCarthy’s ousting was going to have an effect on the country.
