(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) claimed that he does not believe President Biden is going to step aside and allow for a new nominee to be chosen by the Democratic party. He added that it was not possible to negotiate with him.
On Thursday, Biden’s weak performance in the first presidential debate against Trump resulted in widespread fear among liberals, which resulted in pundits indicating during an analysis of the debate that there would potentially be discussions about whether it was necessary for President Biden to step down and allow someone else to become the Democratic candidate against former President Donald Trump.
The White House and Biden’s campaign have maintained that the president would not be leaving the 2024 presidential race.
On Friday, during a discussion on Fox Business McCarthy argued that it would be close to impossible for the Democrats to bring forward a replacement for the President unless he chooses to withdraw from the race on his own. According to the Democratic rules the delegates Biden has won in the presidential primary would be required to still support him at the convention of the party.
McCarthy argued that this was a problem that they had created and the only way for Biden to get off the presidential ballot was if he chose it. He added that Biden is going to be the nominee and that he is not planning to give it up. He also pointed out that his wife Jill Biden was also unwilling to give up.
During his time as Speaker McCarthy had often negotiated with Biden on a number of different topics.
