(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Tuesday, House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that he had called for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) to sign a letter so as to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the Capitol in order to address lawmakers. However, Schumer refused to grant Johnson’s request to invite Netanyahu to a joint meeting.
Johnson had stated that they were prepared to just invite the Israeli President to talk to the House if the Senate leader did not agree.
Schumer confirmed his communications with Johnson and claimed that he was now discussing with the House speaker and that he has always stood by Israel. He added that the relationship between the U.S. and Israel was ironclad and it transcended beyond any one minister or president.
Still, despite this, there is a possible disconnect as the 2024 presidential election in November is drawing nearer. In the upcoming election, it is likely that President Joe Biden will be once again facing off with former President Donald Trump.
The GOP has slammed the President over his decision to withhold an arms shipment to Israel, despite the fact that the weapons shipment from the U.S. to the Middle East continues to be on the pipeline.
