(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Most Democrats approve of having President Joe Biden replaced as the Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate ahead of the general election in November, according to a poll released on Tuesday.
According to the Rasmussen Reports poll, 49 percent of likely voters said they’d approve of Democrats dumping Biden.
Fifty-four percent of Democrat voters want Biden out, with 25 percent of those saying they “strongly approve” of removing Biden, according to the poll.
However, only 45 percent of Republican voters want Biden replaced, and 50 percent of “other” or unaffiliated voters want the same, according to Rasmussen’s polling.
Since February, when the last survey occurred, Democrats in favor of replacing Biden have increased by 6 points.
Young voters aged 18 to 39 are spurring the increase, with 69 percent wanting Biden replaced.
Yet, only 44 percent of voters overall, including 38 percent of Democrats, believe replacing Biden will occur.
The majority of Republicans, 52 percent, suggested it was somewhat or very likely that Democrats would replace Biden before the party’s August convention.
When it comes to better candidates who could replace Biden, the survey reveals 48 percent of those surveyed believed “none of them” were an improvement to Biden Vice President Kamala Harris came in a distant third at 10 percent, being leapfrogged by former First Lady Michelle Obama, who achieved 14 percent support.
The remaining choices included California Governor Gavin Newsom, who received 7 percent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who received 9 percent, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who received 6 percent.
When only Democratic voters were polled, 21 percent indicated Obama would be a better choice than Biden, while 31 percent said “none of them.”
The poll surveyed 1,113 likely U.S. voters between May 20 and May 22.
