(PartiallyPolitics.com) – As the term draws to a close the Supreme Court still has many high stakes to make rulings on including the case relating to the possible criminal immunity of former President Donald Trump. Out of the 61 cases that the Supreme Court heard this term they have not yet resolved 29 of them.
Some of the most important cases that the court is still to make a ruling on include:
Trump’s Criminal Immunity will determine whether or not the former president should be immune from prosecution in all actions that he had taken during his time in office, especially relating to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and his election interference attempts.
Capitol Riot Charges: A former police officer challenges the application of obstruction charges used against participants in the Jan. 6 attack.
Abortion Regulations: Two cases relating to abortion regulation, one which involves the challenge to the FDA’s relaxed regulations on mifepristone, a drug used in abortions. The other question is if states with abortion bans must allow the procedure in medical emergencies.
Gun Rights: The court is examining the validity of a law barring individuals under domestic violence restraining orders from owning firearms, following a lower court’s decision that it violates the Second Amendment.
Homelessness: A critical case addresses whether banning outdoor sleeping when shelter space is unavailable constitutes cruel and unusual punishment, impacting regulations on homeless encampments.
Bump Stock Ban: The legality of the Trump administration’s ban on bump stocks, triggered by their use in the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, is under scrutiny.
Chevron Doctrine: The court might overturn a longstanding decision that requires judicial deference to federal regulators in ambiguous statutory interpretations, impacting environmental, health, safety, and consumer regulations.
Social Media Regulation: Three cases involve disputes over state laws in Texas and Florida regulating social media content moderation and federal government intervention in social media.
Regulatory Challenges: The court is also dealing with challenges to an EPA air pollution rule and a case that could require jury trials for SEC civil fraud complaints.
These rulings are going to have a great legal impact on the country’s policies.
