(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The Republican National Committee (RNC) is going to prepare for the possibility that following former President Donald Trump’s conviction in the hush money trial in New York he might be sentenced to jail. Trump, is the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential race.

The RNC chair Michael Whatley stated on Tuesday during an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” that they were currently planning for that possibility. He added that this week he would be traveling to Milwaukee where they would be having a number of conversations.

On Thursday a New York jury found Trump to be guilty on all 34 felony counts in the hush money case in New York. Trump was accused of falsifying business records in an attempt to hide a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election, in an attempt to keep her quiet about their alleged affair. Judge Juan Merchan has set the date of the sentencing hearing to July 11, which is only four days before the RNC convention.

Trump has vowed that they will be appealing the verdict. It is currently unlikely that Trump is going to be facing any time in prison. Still, many Republicans have opposed the verdict and have warned that Trump’s ability to campaign in the 2024 presidential race should not be inhibited because of the sentence.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in his own statements has pushed for the involvement of the Supreme Court.

Whatley has stated that currently, they expect that Trump will be present in Milwaukee for the party’s nomination.
