(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The FBI revealed they had successfully accessed Thomas Matthew Crooks’ phone.
Crooks is responsible for the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally on Saturday evening.
In a press release, the FBI announced its “technical specialists” had “successfully gained access to Crooks’ phone,” and would continue analyzing his electronic devices.
According to reports citing law enforcement sources, Crooks used a DPMS AR-15 5.56, which is being analyzed at the FBI’s Quantico, Virginia, forensic lab, along with the gunman’s laptop, phone, and at least Improvised Explosive Device (IED) uncovered in his car.
The FBI has completed its search on Crooks’ vehicle and home.
More than a dozen guns were found inside the home, and Crooks’ family are still cooperating with law enforcement.
On Monday, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tennessee) and Ranking Member (D-Mississippi) spoke to Robert Wells, the Executive Assistant Director of the FBI.
A spokesperson for the committee released a statement about the investigation’s progress and what would occur next.
So far, the FBI has conducted nearly 100 interviews, which include interviews of event attendees, law enforcement personnel, and other witnesses. The agency has received hundreds of digital tips, including video footage and photographs taken at the scene.
Shortly after the shooting on Saturday, the agency was on the scene investigating. By Monday, they had been to Crooks’ home and his parents’ home.
They are investigating the incident as a possible act of domestic terrorism and an attempted assassination.
