(PartiallyPolitics.com) – House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., promised on Sunday that there would be retaliation following the guilty verdict in Manhattan against former President Donald Trump. As he argued, the House GOP would use every tool they had available in order to fight back.

Johnson made an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” where he told host Shannon Bream that the House has oversight power. He pointed out that they were specifically intending to use this power in order to fight against corrupt prosecutors. He also clarified that the Republicans needed to remain in the rule of law. As he noted the Republican party was the “rule of law party” and chaos was not in alignment with the conservative values which is why they needed to do everything possible in order to fight back.

He continued by stating that they were conservatives and they believed in the country’s institutions and would do everything possible in order to conserve the United States which he referred to as the greatest country in the world. He added that the country’s institutions, and the justice system specifically, played an important part in that.

The Manhattan jury found Trump to be guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records which resulted in a lot of outrage from many conservatives. Johnson however has repeatedly argued that the GOP needed to remain within the rule of law.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. Jordan has now called for Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who was the one to bring the charges against Trump, to provide his testimony before the committee on June 13.
