(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Friday, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that he would not be running in 2024 for the White House, putting an end to the speculations that wanted him to join the race against his former boss, former President Donald Trump.
Fox News’s Bret Baier asked Pompeo about his decision, to which Pompeo claimed that he and his wife, Susan, had decided that this was not the time for them to join the 2024 presidential race. He added that his decision was not influenced by how tough it would be to get people to support him over former President Donald Trump.
He further claimed that he wanted to see this race be “about ideas” not “people.” Pompeo had previously been considering his own presidential run and in December he had even claimed that he would be announcing his decision for 2024 by the spring.
In a tweet following his Fox interview, Pompeo reiterated that his reasons for not running were “personal” and that this was not the “right time” for him and his family to enter a presidential race, adding that he and his wife were better at their roles as parents, Sunday school teachers and business and community leaders.
He added that he has been humbled by all those who have prayed for him to join the race, while also listening to all those who had told him that “you’d be crazy to run.” He further did not rule out the possibility that he might still run for the White House in a future race.
