(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Trump’s attorneys are petitioning the Georgia Court of Appeals to have Fani Willis disqualified for alleged misconduct.

On Monday, attorneys for former President Donald Trump argued in a court filing that the Georgia Court of Appeals should overturn the decision of a lower court and disqualify the Fulton County District Attorney from prosecuting Trump’s case.

Trump’s attorneys are leaning on the revelations that the Democratic District Attorney had a romantic relationship with one of the top prosecutors in Trump’s case.

The former President’s attorneys wrote that when the trial court had uncovered that a “significant appearance of impropriety” had infected “the current structure of the prosecution team,” it should have remedied the situation by “disqualify[ing] each affected prosecutor and the entire DA’s office.”

Willis’ romantic relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade resulted in a months-long delay in Trump’s election interference case, which included several hearings that ultimately allowed the Democratic District Attorney to remain on the case.

In April, a lower court ruled that either Wade or Willis could remain on the case, but the other would have to step down. Wade stepped down and Willis stayed on.

However, Trump’s attorneys want the appeals court to overturn that decision, arguing both Wade and Willis should have been removed from the case, suggesting their relationship, among other allegations, proved misconduct.

The other allegations of misconduct stem from what Trump’s attorneys argue are politically charged comments Willis made in interviews, during public speaking engagements, and on social media. They also highlight that Willis initially lied about the nature of her relationship with Wade.

In a statement, Steven Sadow, Trump’s attorney in the Georgia election interference case, described being “optimistic” that Georgia’s Appeals Court would disqualify Willis.
