(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Former President Donald Trump in a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” noted that in his opinion the problem with President Joe Biden was not the fact that he was “too old” but rather that he was “incompetent.”
The interview was aired on Sunday and it provides the former president’s perspective on the debate over aging in Washington. In the 2024 presidential elections, age is expected to be an important issue as at the time of the election Biden is going to be almost 82 while Trump is going to be 78.
Trump has previously supported the idea of candidates having to undergo mental competency tests, however, he has opposed the imposition of age limits. In the interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, he noted that he was supportive of tests and even pointed out that in 2020 he had taken a cognitive test at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center which he had “aced.”
While Trump and Biden are only three years apart, the polls have shown that most Americans are concerned with Biden’s age rather than Trump’s. In fact, according to one recent survey, three-quarters of respondents were uncertain of whether Biden would be able to serve a full second term.
Previously Trump had ended his first term in office as the second-oldest President in U.S. history, however, Biden is now older than both Trump and Ronald Reagan who had ended his time in office at the age of 77. Trump has repeatedly attacked Biden for being too “sleepy” to effectively be in office.
