(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Former President Donald Trump described the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity as a significant rebuke to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith. Trump’s remarks followed a decision that, for the first time, acknowledged limited immunity for former presidents, potentially delaying the ongoing criminal case led by Smith in Washington, which charges Trump with attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. This ruling almost certainly prevents any trial from occurring before the November election.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump lambasted Smith: “A really bad day for Deranged Jack Smith, the wacko prosecutor used for Crooked Joe Biden’s attack on his Political Opponent,” he wrote. Trump added that the Supreme Court had delivered a “high level spanking” to Smith and criticized several Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, for their roles in the ongoing prosecutions against him.
Trump called on Garland to terminate what he repeatedly referred to as a “never-ending HOAX,” urging a focus on “bringing back Greatness to America.” Following the Supreme Court’s announcement, Trump celebrated the ruling as a “BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” He expressed his belief that this decision should conclude all legal actions against him, including cases in New York which he attributes to political adversaries.
Trump, who is the presumptive Republican nominee for this year’s presidential election, anticipates officially securing the nomination at the GOP convention scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee.
