(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Monday, the Biden administration sent an urgent warning to Congress regarding the need to provide further assistance to Ukraine, arguing that without more economic and military support Ukraine’s war efforts against Russia could come to a halt.
The Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young noted in a letter to Congress leaders that by the end of the year they are going to be running out of funding to provide military assistance and weapons to Ukraine. Young argued that this would essentially “kneecap” Ukraine as it is fighting against the invasion.
She further pointed out that the U.S. economic assistance to Ukraine has already run out, and that if the economy of Ukraine collapses they will be unable to continue fighting against the invading country. She added that the U.S. was “out of money” and that soon they would also run out of time.
Biden has been calling for a $106 billion aid package that includes funding for Israel and Ukraine. However, the package has not received a lot of support on Capitol Hill, with many being skeptical about the levels of assistance provided to Ukraine. Even those GOP lawmakers who support providing additional funding to Ukraine have insisted that immigration policy changes are necessary before the bill is passed. They have noted that putting an end to the flow of migrants would be one of the conditions for providing assistance to others.
At the same time, the Republican-controlled House has already passed an assistance package for Israel. However, the White House has stated that it was necessary for them to ensure that all of the priorities will be met.
