(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, a member of the socialist-leaning “Squad” of House Democrats, slammed the suggestion that there was a two-tiered system of justice under which former President Donald Trump was currently prosecuted over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

On Wednesday, The Independent published an interview with Ocasio-Cortez where the lawmaker argued that Trump’s and President Joe Biden’s cases regarding classified documents could not be compared. The lawmaker also revealed that she had not yet read all 49 pages of the 37-count indictment that the Department of Justice had filed against Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump appeared before a federal court in Miami for the first time in this case and pleaded not guilty.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that the American public had seen the documents that Trump had piled in bathrooms and closets and that they were aware of the large number of documents in Trump’s possession. She added that there is also the matter of the Trump administration refusing to cooperate with authorities for the recovery of these documents.

Ocasio-Cortez, the No. 2 Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, added that the claim of a “two-tiered justice system” where the person not benefitting from it is “one of the most powerful and wealthy people” in the country does not make sense.

This is something that fellow “Squad” member Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., also pointed out when he argued that the Republicans did not want rich white men to go to jail, but rather they were looking to imprison Black and brown people.
