(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Saturday, former President Trump slammed Florida Governor DeSantis (Republican) for trying to “change” his name after launching his presidential campaign.

DeSantis has had to answer a number of questions about the proper pronunciation of his last name. However, his response is not always consistent, often going between Dee-Santis and Deh-Santis.

Trump during a North Carolina Republican Party Convention stated that DeSantis was now saying that his name was “Dee-Santis.” He proceeded to say that one should never try to change their name while being “in the middle” of a presidential campaign. Trump has often made jokes about DeSantis ’pronunciation of his name and had even posted on Truth Social to say that he preferred “Da” more which was why he was happy that DeSantis was trying to change it.

In the Truth Social post, Trump alleged that DeSantis would often get frustrated when people were incorrectly pronouncing his last name, and then added that he should not mind his nickname “DeSanctimonious.”

DeSantis has not frequently responded to his nickname, however earlier this year he did say that he “kinda” likes it. In fact, during an interview with host Piers Morgan, he said that he did not know “how to spell the sanctimonious one” or exactly what it meant but he liked that it had a lot of vowels.

Last week in an interview with Fox News DeSantis had once again gotten frustrated by the questions about his last name’s pronunciation and had just said that his last name was “Winner.”
