(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Wednesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, defended Hunter Biden following his refusal to testify before Republican lawmakers behind closed doors.
The House Oversight and Judiciary Committees sent a subpoena to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden calling for him to appear before the committee. However, on Wednesday rather than agree to a deposition he instead had a press conference on Capitol Hill. During his remarks, he noted that his father had not been involved in his business activities.
GOP lawmakers are now threatening to hold him in contempt of Congress.
Ocasio-Cortez during a press conference stated that the committee had no right to block Hunter Biden from providing testimony in public, but also they had failed to provide a single witness to back all of their claims and accusations.
She argued that every single person who had been called to testify before the committee had been asked whether they had witnessed anything, only for them to reply that they had never seen or heard anything. She added that at this point the Republicans were just telling a “story.”
Hunter Biden in his own press conference defended his father, arguing that his critics were attempting to dehumanize him and belittle his recovery while trying to make his father embarrassed. He added that for the last six years, he has faced several attacks from the Trump team. He further noted that his dad had not been financially involved in his business at all.
Still, that has not stopped House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Kentucky, from stating that they would begin the process to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress.
