(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) received a warm welcome at the Heritage Foundation’s 50th-anniversary summit just outside Washington, D.C. This marked a change in the levels of support for DeSantis as in the past week a number of Florida lawmakers have chosen to endorse former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

When DeSantis entered the summit, he was greeted by an audience of around 1,070 who gave him a standing ovation. DeSantis has so far not announced his plans for 2024, but it is widely suspected that he is going to be joining the 2024 GOP primary.

The Florida governor during the event for the first time touted his state’s new six-week abortion ban. While the bill was signed last week, DeSantis did not choose to mention it in his speech at Liberty University which took place only a day after the bill was signed. The six-week ban has in general received a lot of criticism.

However, during his remarks in front of the Heritage crowd when talking about his accomplishments, DeSantis made a brief mention of having “recently signed the heartbeat bill to protect life.” This led to strong applause from members of the conservative crowd.

Ken Cuccinelli, a former senior Trump official who recently launched a PAC supporting DeSantis’ presidential run, claimed that the reaction in the Heritage Foundation showed that the conservative voter base supported DeSantis and his actions.

He further told the Hill about DeSantis that “He’s a winner. He’s never lost a race. And you know, he doesn’t complain about the close ones even.”
