(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Monday MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow predicted that former president Donald Trump’s possible re-election would be the end of U.S. politics.

Maddow had told former White House press secretary Jen Psaki that Trump was not a leader of the Republican Party because he was eloquent or because he had “youthful vigor” Instead she argued that this was not what was happening. She further pointed out that Trump had been very open about his “dictatorial ambitions” with those who support him.

Maddow argued that what Trump was pushing to his supporters is that if they ended up supporting him then it would be the “end of politics.” She further pointed out that American voters would have to deal with the American political system collapsing if the former President won a second term in office. As she noted they would no longer be required to deal with politics or contested elections and divisions, as what the country would have is a “strongman leader” who would be doing whatever he wanted.

Maddow who paraphrased Trump’s election pitch argued that this was the model that the former President was offering and that the Republican base was “enthused” by this possibility. She added that they were naive to believe that Trump would trick people into supporting him and then that they would act surprised when he started to act as if he was a dictator. However, as she pointed out, what she thinks is that people are eager to buy what Trump is currently selling.
