(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has slammed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley over allegedly having been inspired by the political career of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Sandra Smith, an anchor for Fox News, asked Haley about these accusations, pointing out that DeSantis was attempting to create a connection between her and Clinton. She then proceeded to playback a clip of DeSantis arguing that Haley’s inspiration for running for the White House was Clinton and that they did not need a second Clinton running for office.

In response, Haley stated that DeSantis was getting “desperate” and that all fact-checkers had informed him of how wrong he was. She added that DeSantis had spent millions of campaign dollars to make this claim. However, as she pointed out she had never claimed that Clinton was an inspiration.

In her book “With All Due Respect” which was released in 2019, Haley specifically stated that Clinton’s nomination was historic, as she was the first woman nominee in one of the two leading parties. She added that while she did not know her personally, she had once met Clinton during an event in South Carolina and that she had been inspired by her to run for office and make her voice heard. She added that there were some ways in which Clinton continued to be inspiring.

This quote puts into question Haley’s claims that had not been inspired by Clinton in her political career.

The New York Times also had an interview with Haley in 2012 where she once again stated that she had run because of Clinton.
