(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has warned that the Texas abortion pill ruling is part of the “Republicans’ goal of a nationwide abortion ban.”

On Saturday during a press call, Schumer spoke about the ruling regarding mifepristone by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee. In reference to the unprecedented ruling, he noted that it is “awful, extreme and unprecedented” and that it would “strip away” health care for millions of Americans.

He added that this ruling is clearly linked to the Republicans’ goal of enforcing a nationwide abortion ban. He added that the lawsuit is an attempt from “MAGA Republicans” to use the court system in favor of their “extreme agenda” which is otherwise unpopular in the country. He added that the Republicans have spent years trying to slowly get rid of reproductive rights. The Dobbs decision last year specifically was “the greatest backslide of individual liberties in half a century.”

President Biden also criticized the case, stating that the ruling was unprecedented and it was removing “basic freedoms from women  and putting their health at risk.” He added that this is a move towards a nationwide abortion ban, which Republicans have promised to make a reality in America.

Schumer argued that Republicans are clearly stating that “your body, our choice.” He further noted that this is the first time a long time approval of a drug by the FDA has been revoked or overturned.
