(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s attorney Alina Habba stated on Tuesday that they were not worried that Trump might land in jail over having violated the partial orders in his legal case.
Trump has already been fined $15,000 in connection to the New York civil fraud trial where a gag order had blocked him from threatening and insulting the judge’s staff. Another gag order has been placed on him in the federal election interference criminal case where he is blocked from making comments about prosecutors, court staff, and potential witnesses. Breaking the gag order in the election interference case could have serious consequences for Trump.
In an interview with Newsmax Habba stated that there were two reasons why they were not concerned. The first is that Trump is protected by the Secret Service and the second is that he committed no wrongdoings. As she argued when people end up in jail it is because they have done something.
She added that while there are “crooked situations” both within and outside of court and they could potentially try to do something against Trump, it would still not work because of the trial process. As she said there are also facts and they would not be able to win their case on facts.
It is currently unclear whether or not Trump might face jail time as a result of violating the gag order, it is unclear whether his status as a former president protects him from this. Ty Cobb, a former White House lawyer also warned that jail time might be coming Trump’s way.
