(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Tuesday, California Rep. Adam Schiff (D) put out a statement supporting the Writers Guild of America and the thousand of Hollywood writers that are currently on strike asking for better pay.

Schiff, who is currently campaigning for a U.S. Senate Seat currently held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D),  has argued that it is integral for writers to receive better wages and wage protection in an era when streaming content has become so mainstream. He further added that better pay would help ensure that those people working in the entertainment industry would be able to have a good livelihood.

He proceeded to state that he supports those who are striking and that he is hoping to see the two sides reach an agreement.

The WGA started their strike on Tuesday at midnight and had a planned picket for the following day. The decision came after the union spent six weeks negotiating with big studios including Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and other studios under the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. However, the union claims that these studios have been unwilling to respond properly to the crisis writers are currently facing with the increase in streaming content and new technologies.

The White House and President Biden have not yet expressed support for either side, despite Biden previously claiming that he is the most pro-union president ever. Instead, White House press secretary Karine Jean Pierre has urged both sides to continue negotiations.  has not waded into the WGA strike.
