(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar initiated a new border security group that is going to assist in countering the claims of the GOP that the Democrats were not willing to deal with the issues at the border.
Cuellar had told reporters that it was very important for the Democrats to talk about border security while at the same time respecting the rights of immigrants. He added that for a long time, the GOP has been pushing forward a narrative about the U.S. border being dangerous and out of control. He added that this is why it was important for the Democrats to oppose that narrative about border security.
The Democrats for Border Security Task Force is going to be focused on calling for bipartisan border security legislation, and specifically the failed Senate border bipartisan bill which had ended up failing after the Republicans changed their mind about supporting the bill.
The bill did not only include provisions about the U.S. border but also aid for U.S. allies in the Pacific, Israel, and Ukraine.
Texas Rep. Colin Allred, who is a task force member, claimed that the reason why the Democrats were not voting in favor of the resolution is because they believe that border chaos was going to benefit them in November during Election Day.
President Biden has been pushing Congress to take the border bill up against it, however, the House GOP under Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to consider the legislation, let alone pass it.
